Thank you for your interest in taking on a leadership position in one of our alumni chapters. Our GCU community is growing rapidly and chapters are the best way for Lopes to share their pride, participate in events and find networking opportunities.

Being the president of your local alumni chapter is a wonderful experience! Chapter presidents are dedicated volunteers in charge of keeping the GCU spirit and mission alive in his or her area. As chapter president, you will guide and assist your group of local alumni to plan events and create opportunities for a wide range of chapter members to participate in, acting as the main point of contact for your chapter.

A chapter president is responsible for:

  • Connecting local alumni to the GCU community
    • Understanding and supporting GCU’s mission, brand and desired alumni experience
    • Acting as a liaison between local alumni, chapter members, the Office of Alumni Relations and GCU
    • Recruiting new members and volunteers
  • Fostering a chapter environment that engages a wide range of alumni
    • Developing diverse programming and maintaining an inclusive and welcoming environment
    • Guiding the chapter leadership team in creating its annual chapter event and programming plan to be submitted to the Office of Alumni Relations
    • Providing all alumni with a high level of service
  • Leading the local chapter
    • Enlisting other volunteers to delegate responsibilities
    • Managing effective and efficient chapter operations, including ensuring policies and procedures are executed in accordance with the chapter handbook and university standards
    • Ensure chapter events and meetings meet expectations and standards for a GCU chapter by being present at all alumni chapter events and meetings as required*

 

*Extenuating circumstances are taken into consideration; however, chapter leaders must be able to attend the majority of chapter events. If you are unable to fulfill this commitment, you may be asked to take another role within the chapter.

The vice president assists the chapter president with chapter events, planning and activities. The vice president is a dedicated volunteer that fills the president’s position in an emergency, if the president decides to step down or the president is removed.

A chapter vice president is committed to:

  • Performing the duties of the president when they are absent
  • Helping the president lead the local chapter
    • Collaborating on chapter goals and objectives
    • Sharing responsibilities related to event coordination and execution
  • Being an ambassador for new members or local alumni interested in joining the chapter
  • Assisting the president and members at chapter events in order to become familiar with and promote chapter operations by attending all alumni chapter events and meetings as required*

The marketing chair oversees the marketing and communications information flow for the chapter. This includes, but is not limited to, managing chapter social media accounts and connecting with the Office of Alumni Relations to create emails and marketing materials for chapter events and programs.

The marketing chair is committed to:

  • Helping the president lead the local chapter
    • Collaborating on chapter goals and objectives
    • Attends all alumni chapter events and meetings as required*
  • Finding effective and innovative ways to reach local alumni and chapter members to keep them engaged and connected
  • Administrating chapter’s social media accounts as applicable
    • Promoting events and meetings
    • Ensuring all posts have been checked for proper grammar, spelling and punctuation
    • Using only Office of Alumni Relations-approved photos and our official logo.
