Teacher Certificate Exam Preparation and Remediation
College of Education teacher candidates in pursuit of Institutional Recommendation are required to pass their state-specified certification exams before beginning their student teaching assignment.
Please visit your state's Department of Education website for more information. You may contact your field experience counselor for specific questions regarding required exams.
The ACE Center has tutoring available for all students where you can request an appointment, watch educational videos or use online learning assistance through ThinkingStorm.
For elementary exam prep, a typical math session will involve a LEAD reviewing equations similar to those on the practice tests. We provide several worksheets with mathematical concepts that are on the test which are used during the session to teach students how to solve those types of problems.
The major concepts we assist with for math NES sessions are algebra, statistics, probability and geometry.
For writing/reading NES test prep, we primarily use sessions to practice concepts like understanding the etymology of words, identifying grammar rules such as subject and verb agreement, and diagramming out a sentence.
The Teaching Certification and Credential Center serves as a College of Education resource for students who are interested in programs that lead to initial licensure for teaching and/or administration. These programs provide Institutional Recommendation, which recognizes graduates as eligible for a credential or initial certification in their area of study. Graduates in these programs receive Arizona certification, but for certification in a state other than Arizona, graduates must apply to their respective state department of education.
You will receive increased access to relevant information and educational resources to deepen knowledge. Review the Education Resources and Program Essentials to get updates about teaching standards, salaries, departments of education, career opportunities, professional organizations and more.
The Student Success Center serves as a resource to prepare for a certification exam by reviewing test preparation strategies, test taking strategies, state testing requirements and more. You can also access tip sheets, fact sheets, manuals, guides and more to support career preparation areas such as practicum/field experience, student teaching/clinical practice and educational administration.
